A response to a digitally merged Celtic stone carvings and a foxglove plant.  I am investigating the links between ancient lost plant knowledge and the Celtic druids.

I am deeply concerned about the loss of habitat and feel that pre industrial cultures were more connected to their environment. In the work I have used celtic stone carvings as signifiers of such a culture.  I believe the celts to have held the kind of esoteric knowledge that would help us to preserve and live more in tune with nature.  It is the integration of these two ideas I am seeking to communicate.

I'm interested in the possibilities of the materials and how much I can push the subject matter to look differently.

Inspired by Raushenberg assemblages and the symbology of celtic stone markers, flowers, developing the integration of culture and plant knowledge.

Here I wanted to see how I could merge the magical flowers with symbols of knowledge sharing, like the kitchen chair and table.

This was a very intuitive piece, again I am trying to see how I can merge celtic stone carvings to represent the culture with magical plants.

I wanted to explore aspects of chiaroscuro as it worked well with the subject matter and my overall desire to bring the dark to the light.

Layering to try for the depth and colour lumination that you can get with conventional oil.
